Battle

They met Andrew and Ninetales at Tula’s.

“So what are we going to do today?” Lucario asked after giving his order.

Everyone looked at each other expecting someone else to know what to do. Riley spoke up first. “I was wondering if I could battle Andrew.” He said. Ninetales wouldn’t exactly be the easiest opponent against a sneasel, and he had already battled against Lucario and lost plenty of times.

Andrew looked stunned. He knew Riley enjoyed battling, but he hadn’t expected a challenge from him.

“Sure, my house has a small stadium, we could do it there.” Andrew suggested. He, too, was a fan of battles. While he usually watched friends battle each other, he sometimes joined in.

“Why don’t you two join in on the fun?” Riley asked, pointing to Ninetales and Lucario. Lauren did not enjoy battling, though she loved watching them.

Lucario smiled. “Sure why not, I haven’t battled in so long, I need an excuse to beat someone up!” He joked.

“How ‘bout you Ninetales?” Lucario asked enthusiastically.

“Why not” She said

Lucario closed his fist in the air, emitting a small wave of blue aura. “It’s on!” He said jokingly.

They continued eating. After several minutes, Lauren spoke up.

“If this is going to be a four-pokémon battle, then who are the teams going to be?” Everyone was silent, trying to pick the best match up.

“I have an idea.” Andrew said. “How about I have Lucario on my team, and Ninetales and Riley are on the other? That way, our teams are as fair as they can be.” He suggested. The others murmured in agreement. “Great, let’s do it at nine.”

Riley, Lauren, and Lucario hailed a taxi to Andrew’s house. Riley had thought of a good strategy to win. He, being the fastest of the four, would use brick break on Andrew. With Andrew’s terrible stats, he would go down right away. Riley had gone to the gift shop and bought a focus sash to survive a turn of Lucario’s close combat. Ninetales would use nasty plot, then flamethrower to OTK Lucario. This would be an easy win to behold.

When they got to Andrew’s house, he led them out back, and pressed a button to make a roof close over the battlefield.

Riley pulled Ninetales over to their side of the field and told her his plan.

“Nice, I was just going to attack straight out.” Ninetales said.

“Alright, let’s get this started!” Riley exclaimed, stepping onto the field. He tied his focus sash around his waist.

Lauren stepped onto the judge’s podium and called everyone to the field.

“Get ready to lose Riley!” Lucario said. Though he couldn’t learn taunt, he loved doing it for fun.

“Right, you keep thinking that.” Riley said.

“Riley has the first move!” Lauren said as forceful as she could. “Then Ninetales will attack. After Ninetales will be Lucario, then Andrew.” Everyone nodded. “Begin!”

Riley ran towards Andrew as fast as he could. Andrew, seeing as he was going to be attacked, braced for impact. Riley jumped up into the air as high as he could, then came down with his arm outstretched at Andrew. It was brick break.

Andrew staggered for a minute, and then fell over. He was out in one hit. When he fell over a sitrus berry fell from his fur. Lauren ran onto the field and lifted it away to stop any obstructions. She ran back and pulled Andrew by his scruff.

“Ready!” She said after she jumped back onto the podium.

Ninetales sat down and began to think bad thoughts. It was nasty plot. The plan was still on. When she was finished, she stood back up.

Lucario ran up close to Riley. Riley tried to dodge but couldn’t. Lucario began beating him unmercifully. Riley struggled to get up. His focus sash disintegrated. Riley struggled to stand up, but he managed to do it. When he looked back at Lucario, his body seemed to grow a small bit frailer. The drawback of close combat is that it lowers defenses.

“Stop!” Lauren said. Riley and Ninetales backed up to discuss the next round. They chose to stick with the plan.

“Time!” Lauren said again. They went back to their battle positions. “Begin!”

Riley did the same jump-strike brick break. Lucario waited until the last minute, and then jumped out to the way.

“Crap” Riley whispered under his breath.

Ninetales ran up to Lucario, but didn’t stop running when she got up to him.

Lucario put his paws over his head and braced to be tackled. After a second of no tackle, he let go and looked up. There, he saw Ninetales loose a searing flamethrower. Coupled with nasty plot, and the fact that Lucario was a steel type, he didn’t stand a chance. He struggled, but fell over.

“Game, set, and match!” Ninetales said on landing.

Riley threw a punch into the air in excitement and gave Ninetales a friendly hug. Lauren jumped down and fed Andrew and Lucario revival herbs. They sat up immediately at the bitter medicine.

“Geez, that tastes terrible.” Lucario said. He rubbed the back of his neck in embarrassment.

Riley and Ninetales walked up to Andrew. “Guess you don’t have the home-field advantage!” They said in unison. Andrew gave a cheeky smile.

“Guess not” He said.
Lauren padded over to Riley. “That was awesome, but it is getting late, so we had better get back.”

Riley nodded. He helped Andrew up. “Lauren is right. We need to head back.” Riley said.

“Alright, we’ll meet at Stack in the morning.” Andrew said. Stack is a pancake house near their hotel.

They walked off, while Lucario told Riley how he would beat him next time.
Ten Years After: A Pokemon World - Battle
This is my sixth part of Ten Years After. Everyone but Lauren participates in a double battle, with a somewhat obvious outcome. Had Riley not had his item would the outcome have been different? Probably not, all he did was... just read.

If you're wondering, OTK means one turn kill. One kid who hangs out with us talks about using set ups to OTK. I added that joke in here. My friend (who is Keith in Within) and I always try to explain that you can't OTK with a set up move.

OTK should really be changed to OAK ( one attack kill ) as it only uses one damaging move, but it technically needs multiple turns if you need to set it up. also, its the last name of the Kanto prof.
