Fulfilled

Riley spent most of the travel time talking to Nai. Lauren would have been jealous, had Riley not acted as loyal as he was.

None of them were at all sad at the leaving of Travis, but no one had gotten over Andrew’s death. If Nai didn’t care about it, then she was an amazing actor.

Another thing that bothered them is what Ninetales did to Travis.

“Why did you curse him? At least tell us that.” Lauren pressed

Ninetales sighed. “Riolu grabbed my tail, and someone has to be cursed. Riolu is a friend, so I didn’t curse him. Now Travis, he hates everyone, and I don’t know about you, but I hate him, so he fit the bill.”

Riley laughed. “I happen to like this. He deserves to be punished for the way
he treated us.”

Everyone stopped and stared at Riley. “Shut up”

Several minutes later, Riley stopped.

“What is it?” Lauren asked. She padded up beside him, then took a look at the door. “Oh”

Nai looked at the door as well. “What?”

Riley reached out and opened the door. He was shaking furiously, but he wanted to know what was inside.

Riolu leaned into Lauren. “What’s so special about this?” He asked.

Lauren gestured to a plaque that was mounted onto the door. “This says Lowes.” She said.

Nai scoffed. “All I see is gibberish.”

Lauren ignored her. “On the plane over here, he had a dream where he was in this building, and he saw this room. Nothing happened in here, but when he went into another room, he terrified some woman.” She explained.

Lauren didn’t even wait for a response. She walked inside to support Riley.

Nai started in. Riolu grabbed her. “Wait, if Riley went into that room there,” He pointed to the adjacent door. “then why shouldn’t we save him the time?”

“Because we can’t understand humans, Riley and Lauren are the only ones with us that can.” Ninetales pointed out.

“So? I don’t know what you two are going to do, but I’m going.” Riolu walked to the door and opened it. “Coming?”

Nai and Ninetales exchanged glances, but followed him nonetheless.




Riley was most amazed and terrified at the same time. “It’s the exact same.”

Lauren managed to nuzzle open the refrigerator. As she peered in, she noticed items that their parent’s would have had in her refrigerator before the disaster. “Riley, come here.”

Riley dropped a remote and walked over to Lauren. “What”
“Are these the things that were in the refrigerator in your dream?” She asked.

Riley grabbed a beer and threw it against the wall. It shattered in a spray of alcohol and glass. “Yes”

Lauren was stunned. “What the hell was that for?” She shouted.

Riley blinked several times. “I don’t know. I just didn’t want to see that.” He said. He cupped his claws around his short ear.

Lauren sighed. “I know that this is hard for you, but is it the Lowe’s fault?”

Riley ignored the question and walked into another room. “Oh god” He muttered. There, lying in a bed was a human. Riley held his claws in front of his face. For once, he held the future of a human to his own. Riley stepped forward. He reached out too him.

“Wait, Riley” Lauren whispered. She was just loud enough so Riley could hear him, but not so loud as to wake the woman in bed.

Riley withdrew his hand. “Humans think we are evil, so why don’t we give them
a reason?”

“Please Riley! She probably has seen enough without being shunned from her society. Don’t do it.” Lauren pleaded.

A tear escaped Riley’s eye. “They don’t deserve this much kindness.”

“Come one, we’ll talk about this somewhere else.” Lauren said. Riley followed her into the hall.




“This looks so weird.” Riolu said, commenting on the child’s toys scattered about the room.

They all split up, to search around the room. Ninetales went into one room, which turned out to be a bedroom (it was no small feat for her to open up a door by herself). Riolu continued searching the den. Nai went into the kitchen.

“It’s so normal.” Nai said, half-expecting for there to be some sort of scientific device. She turned a corner and saw a human girl. She had her back turned to Nai,
so she couldn’t tell that Nai was there. She held a wooden spoon in her hand, was moving her arm in a circular motion, and Nai could smell pasta. This only meant that she was cooking.

A timer went off. The woman picked up a pot full of boiling water. She took it over to a sink, and began emptying it. She was now turned at Nai from her side. Nai did nothing, just watch her strange, human tactics.

The human woman caught something out of the corner of her eyes. She shouted loudly when she caught sight of Nai. She picked up the spoon she had put down and threw it at her.

“What the hell!” Nai cried. She had just barely dodged the spinning projectile. It hit the ground with a rattle.

The woman screamed again. She climbed on the counter, careful to avoid the stove that she was cooking on.

Nai watched her crawl on the counter. “Why the crap are you guys still human?” Nai yelled, feeling like a police interrogator using torture.

She crawled over a button on the wall. She extended her are to press it, but something happened. The button just seemed to explode.

Nai sighed. “Is there anything normal about this place?” She dropped her focus on the woman, and turned it toward the now-useless jumble of sparking electrical wires. On closer examination, she saw claw marks. She turned back to the woman and saw Riley standing in front of her, cornering her against a can opener and a microwave oven.

“Nai, get out of here.” Riley said, looking back. “Ask Lauren to explain this too you.”

“But-“

“Now!” Riley pressed. Nai reluctantly complied.

The woman screamed again.

“Shut up!” Riley demanded. “I know you cannot understand me, but I can understand you, so I will put this as easily as possible.” He took a deep breath. “Where-“ He made a shrugging motion. “is the-” He made a motion like he was looking for something. “exit?” He made a circle with his claws, and inserted a claw from his other arm into it.

She had no idea what Riley was doing. “Get out of here!”

Riolu heard all of the shouting and came into the kitchen to see what was going on. He was shocked at what he saw.

“Riley! Don’t hurt her!” He said.

Riley looked back. “Why not?”

“That’s Janice!”

Riley was puzzled. “Who?”

Riolu realized that Travis hadn’t told Riley about her. “Travis’s mate, his goal, now, is to change her so he can be with her again.”

Riley withheld his claw. “Then why don’t we save him the trouble?” Riley asked.

Lauren turned the corner into the kitchen. “Because we just talked about this,
Riley. Let her be!” Lauren demanded.

“Not this time!” Riley stepped closer to Janice. “Humans are far too lucky. They just have to learn that their luck will run out eventually.”

He was less than an inch away from touching Janice, when Riolu swatted his claws away from her. “Don’t be a retard! Are you forgetting that you were human too, and what about Travis? I don’t think he has had the best of luck.” He said.

“No, but maybe we should give these humans something to hate us for.” Riley said, repeating what he had told Lauren.

“Come on Riley! Just leave her!” Riolu said. He grabbed Riley by the wrist. Riley struggled to get free, but he couldn’t.

Riolu pulled him out of the kitchen and into the hall. “Fine” Riley said.

Nai was sitting in the hall. Ninetales was with her. “Ready?” Ninetales asked.

Riolu looked at Riley, then back at Ninetales. “Yeah, let’s go.”
