I consider myself a punk. I go by Punktaku on the internet (outside of dA, of course). I am, however, straight edge and I do my very best to respect all opinions. When an opinion becomes hateful, however, I must speak out. As many of you know, I am a citizen of High Point, North Carolina. I've been a proud southerner for most of my life, but now I must revoke any pride I had in my region. Pat McCrory, our wonderful governor, has finally put an end to perverts who wish to circumvent the law and use the bathroom opposite of their sex to sneak a peek at young men or women when they are in a rather vulnerable position. Why is this wrong? Because I can no longer use the women's restroom in public. I am a MtF transgender. I am in the process of transitioning. I can think of very few people who don't know this about me, yet my family still calls me by my old name. I am Cass, not Taylor. I am her, not him. I have to deal with this everytime I'm in public with family. But I can deal with that. If I need a break, I excuse myself and head into the restroom for a minute of alone time. Now, I can't do that. Recently, I have decided to look for a job because I'm a broke college student. Now, I can be refused employment on the grounds that my gender identity does not match what's between my legs. I like to think that I pass fairly well. Now, when I enter a bathroom, I can be sued for trying to be perverted and look at women in the stall: something that laws never would prevent in the first place.

Oh, that's right. I can change my birth certificate to say F and not M, right? Well, not until I've had surgery. So basically something that costs tens of thousands of dollars is the only way I can pee in peace? Sure.

I'm sure he'll never read this, but I'd like to give Pat McCrory a hand. Go on, clap with me. I try not to get political, but after the Democrats in the North Carolina congress walked out in protest to these new laws, he and the Republicans passed these discriminatory acts of hate. I can't for the life of me see why these people would want to put even more stress on a community with such a high suicide rate. Maybe it's population control for them.

These laws were passed in response to an anti-discrimination ordinance passed in Charlotte a few weeks ago. This simply allowed anyone to use the restroom assigned to the gender they identify most with. Now, I can be refused a job based on the fact that I'm trans. I can be fired or forced to leave a public place. I can be arrested for having to take a piss while trying to change my name at the Guilford County Courthouse.

This is the point where I cite Thomas Jefferson, but I can't seem to find a source for his quote about unjust laws. Instead, I give you Martin Luther King Jr. writing from jail in Birmingham Alabama:

"One has not only a legal but a moral responsibility to obey just laws. Conversely, one has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws."

To close, if you  never hear from me again, blame Pat McCrory.

Starting to hate McCrory even more. And I already disliked him to begin with. He's been doing some shady shit just to save his own ass.
